This is a reflection about my growth during the Postgraduate Diploma in TESL programme and my future goals.
This is a reflection about my growth during the Postgraduate Diploma in TESL programme and my future goals.
Step 1
I started my career as a Junior School Teacher at CIS with BA in English and English Literature (2014)
Step 2
I did my MA in Linguistics in 2016 with the hope of upgrading my qualifications and knowledge while working as a Visiting Lecturer of English.
Step 3
Currently, I am reading for my Postgraduate studies at PGIE in Open University, Sri Lanka to expand my knowledge about teaching ESL and different teaching methodologies and approaches.
I’m currently reading for my Postgraduate Diploma in TESL at the Open University, Sri Lanka (OUSL). This Postgraduate programme is based on a standard structure of how to teach English I started as a primary teacher with the Diploma in Early Childhood and Primary Education I did my Bachelor in Education & reflected about my teaching to implement new techniques of teaching I’m reading my Postgraduate with PGIE in Open University, Sri Lanka to explore more about teaching ESL as a second language with a high-quality lecturer panel at the Postgraduate Institute of English in OUSL. Before embarking on this course, I achieved an Honors degree in Bachelor of Education from the Open University of Malaysia (OUM). I am engaged to do this course because I am always eager to surf new techniques and knowledge of teaching. Although I am particularly interested in the engagement with the youth. Therefore, I hope to further develop my knowledge and understanding of how the second language attempt to engage with the student's future career in Sri Lanka. I am also interested in exploring different methodologies aimed at promoting the second language. This course will enable me to explore different areas of teaching English as a Second language to the students. On the other hand, by pursuing a Postgraduate in TESL, I hope to further enhance my expertise in the areas of language teaching skills through my experiences. According to Glatthorn (1995), professional development can be seen as “a result of gaining increased experience and examining his or her teaching systematically” (p. 41). I am strongly agreed with this statement because the need of learning through experiences and reflecting on our own performances are essential aspects of our professional growth while doing a course like Postgraduate Diploma in TESL. As a long-term goal, I would like to make use of my improved knowledge of the second language to further professional development of mine in the developing world and share my experiences and insights in teaching with others. I hope this will reflect on my future career goals and possible destinations.
